{\page \name={QBone Architecture Design Team} \author={Ben Teitelbaum} \keywords={QBone Architecture Design Team diff-serv} \description={Home page of the QBone Architecture design team} {\qboneBody {\h1 QBone Architecture Design Team} Between May 1998 and October 2001, Internet2 worked to specify and deploy the QBone Premium Service (QPS), an interdomain virtual leased-line IP service built on diff-serv forwarding primitives. QPS was very nearly fully specified by the {\a \href=http://www.internet2.edu/qos/wg/documents-informational/draft-i2-qbone-arch-1.0/ Draft QBone Architecture (v1.0)} and was even {\a \href=http://qbone.internet2.edu/oldstuff.shtml#qps-demo demonstrated}, but was never successfully deployed operationally. The charter of this design team is to bring closure to the QBone Premium Service effort by documenting the reasons that QPS failed to deploy and by documenting our best understanding of how the architecture should be rounded out. Bringing closure to the architecture will include a review of all outstanding issues, including: the provisioning and matching of policers and shapers across interdomain boundaries to support micro-flow aggregation, the calculation of worst-case jitter bounds, service verification, and signaling, including an assessment of the recommendations of the {\a \href=http://qbone.internet2.edu/bb/ QBone Signaling Design Team}. Finally, this group will monitor the progress of the {\a \href=http://www.dante.net/tf-ngn/activities.html Premium IP} work being carried out by the European {\a \href=http://www.terena.nl/task-forces/tf-ngn/ TF-NGN task force}. TF-NGN and Internet2 have agreed in principle to form a joint working group to coordinate Premium service specifications and deployments. The instantiation of this joint working group is a linkage between the {\tt qbone-arch-dt@internet2.edu} and {\tt premiumip@dante.org.uk} mailing lists. \; {\h2 Design Team Members} \; {\ul \; {\li Larry Dunn / Will Murray (Cisco Systems)} \; {\li Kihong Park (Purdue University)} \; {\li Michael Groeger (Deutsche Telekom)} \; {\li Paul Schopis (OARnet)} \; {\li Stanislav Shalunov (Internet2)} \; {\li Ben Teitelbaum (Internet2 and Advanced Network & Services) (chair)} \; {\li Matt Zekauskas (Internet2 and Advanced Network & Services)}} \; {\h2 Milestones} \; \; {\titledTable {{Architecture Design Team Goals}} {Date | Goal} \; {\stripedRow {{March 2, 2001} {Design team kickoff}}} \; \; {\stripedRow {{March 2, 2001} {Begin participation in joint \; Internet2 / TF-NGN working group to specify a common Premium \; service definition}}} \; \; {\stripedRow {{March 30, 2001} \; {Begin work on revised architecture (three work areas) \; {\ul \; {\li Restructure and refresh architecture document (word-smithing, reference and terminology update)} \; {\li Design and document new Premium service definition} \; {\li Fix measurement architecture and revise section 4 (word-smithing to clarify collection requirements, design and debugging of dissemination architecture)}}}}} \; \; {\stripedRow {{June 1, 2001}{Complete architecture draft revision and submit to WG for comments}}} \; \; {\stripedRow {{April/May, 2001}{WG call for consensus on whether to \; proceed with integrating the Signaling DT's recommendations into \; the QBone architecture draft}}} \; \; {\stripedRow {{?}{If WG advised integration (above), publish \; revised architecture draft edited for smooth integration or linkage \; of the Signaling DT's specification with the QBone architecture \; draft}}} \; } {\h2 Deliverables} {\ul {\li Deployment post-mortem document ({\a \href=http://mail.internet2.edu:8080/guest/archives/qbone-arch-dt/log200205/msg00000.html draft} under review)} {\li Architecture post-mortem document} } {\h2 Mailing list} {\ul {\li To join, send email to Ben Teitelbaum } {\li A {\a \href=http://mail.internet2.edu/guest/archives/qbone-arch-dt public archive} is also available}} \; {\h2 Pending Changes} \; \; {\titledTable {{Proposed QBone Architecture Changes}} {Section | Change} \; {\stripedRow {{Section 4.3} \; {Clarification of metric reporting requirements}}} \; {\stripedRow {{Section 4.3} \; {Removal of html and gif reporting requirements}}} \; {\stripedRow {{Section 4.3} \; {Unification of static and dynamic reporting interfaces}}} \; {\stripedRow {{Section 4.3} \; {Context-free grammar for reporting interface syntax}}} \; {\stripedRow {{Section 4.3} \; {Specification of {\b whois} interface to resolve... \; {\ul \; {\li IP addresses, to canonical router and QBone domain names} \; {\li Canonical QBone domain names to the URL prefix of the domains measurement dissemination server} \; {\li Canonical router names to interface sets}}}}} \; \; {\stripedRow {{Section 5.
